“Della the Flying Dragon” was named by a friend of Karen’s who couldn’t imagine her creating a fearsome creature. Della has the power of flight, but she isn’t likely to alarm anyone except possibly the local bees.

“Della” has a coat hanger skeleton, stuffed with wool batting and wrapped in bubble wrap. Her outer skin is cotton batik adorned with beads and a silver filigree heart.

Artist Karen Lewis

Karen Lewis is a local artist who has benefited from and contributed to the Arlington Arts Council in many ways.

“I moved to Arlington in the summer of 1996.  We were fortunate to have a friend who belonged to the Arlington Arts Council.  It was she who encouraged me to join the Council as a way to further my study of mixed media and participate in the Council’s interest in nurturing public art in Arlington.

Suddenly Dragons has been a fun way to revisit needle arts and share in my love of whimsy.”
